The Snowy Mountains are renowned for freshwater fishing. Lake Eucumbene and nearby rivers are stocked with brown trout and rainbow trout.

Bait and fishing tackle, boat hire and fishing charters are available around Adaminaby and Lake Eucumbene, with friendly advice from experienced fishers.

This season's Snowy Trout Challenge will begin in October 2023.

Tagged Fish Ready to Catch!

ANYONE who can catch a fish has the chance to win some fantastic prizes during the 2023-24 Snowy Trout Challenge, from October 2023 to April 2024.

500 tagged rainbow trout have been released this season into Lakes Eucumbene, Crackenback & Jindabyne. The numbered tag is easy to see. This year's tag colour is YELLOW.

How do I take part in the Challenge?

Simply come and fish!

Come when you can, as often as you want. It's important to take a photo of your fish & tag, and to register your catch by following the instructions.

What should I do if I catch a tagged trout?

Check the Challenge Facebook page or Terms & Conditions for instructions on how to record your catch and enter the prize draw.

If you prefer to catch and release, that is fine; you will still need to record details and keep the tag.

The trout are released from Gaden Trout Hatchery.

The event has been devised to create added interest in the fishing industry in the region, plus attract more visitors to the area to fish.

Snowy Mountains Trout Festival

The Snowy Mountains flyfishing festival in November attracts anglers from all over Australia.
