Snowy Trout Challenge 2020-21

Tagged Fish Ready to Catch!

ANYONE who can catch a fish has the chance to win some fantastic prizes over the coming months, with the opening of the Snowy Trout Challenge in late October 2020.

The Snowy Monaro will see 100s of tagged rainbow trout released into the lakes and weirs. Each fish has been numbered. The tagged fish will be clearly visible with a pink tag.

A selection of fish will have significant cash prizes associated with their catch.

How do I take part in the Challenge?

Simply come and fish the waters of the Snowy Monaro!

Come when you can, as often as you want. The Challenge runs for 6 months from late October 2020.

Tagged fish will be released into Lake Jindabyne and Lake Eucumbene, Lake Williams at Nimmitabel, Cooma Weir, Coolumbooka Weir at Bombala and Lake Crackenback Resort.

What should I do if I catch a tagged trout?

You will need to follow the procedure to claim the prize:

  • contact the organisers via email
  • photograph your fish
  • record some details of where and when you caught it, and
  • remove the tag.

If you prefer to catch and release, that is allowed; but you will still need to record details and keep the tag.

More about the Trout Challenge

The fish will be released by DPI Fisheries staff from Gaden Trout Hatchery.

The event has been devised to create added interest in the fishing industry in the region, plus assist in attracting visitors to the area to fish.

You can find all the terms and conditions and more information on the Snowy Trout Challenge Facebook page.
